GUIDE TO SAFETY FOOTWEAR






        Hazards and risk exist in different workplace in various forms. The best way to protect employees
        is to control and avoid these hazards and risks using personal protective equipments. Protective
        footwear worn in the workplace is designed to protect the foot from physical hazards such as
        falling objects, stepping on sharp objects, heat and cold, wet and slippery surfaces, or exposure to
        corrosive chemicals.


        Know and determine the specific hazards present on your work environment. Safety toe caps  like
        steel or composite, puncture resistant soles, and special construction materials can help protect
        against falling objects, sharp metal edges, chemicals or electrical hazards. Also, it is advisable to
        buy safety shoes that fits well to your size and buy the kind you needed. Ergonomic properties and
        comfortability are also other properties you need to look for with your protective shoes.

      FOOT PROTECTION      this can be a stainless steel insert in the sole, aluminum insert in the sole or by Kevlar insole.
               - indicates that the safety footwear has a 200 joule toe protection, it can have additional

          SB
                 features but it is the most basic of safety footwear.
         SB-P
               - has the same features as the SB rating with the addition of the mid-sole penetration protection



          S1

               - 200 joule toe cap and is classed as anti-static footwear the sole is also resistant to fuel oil
        and has energy absorption in the heel area.

         S1-P
               - has the same features as the S1 rating with the addition of the mid-sole penetration protection
        this can be a stainless steel insert in the sole, aluminum insert in the sole or by Kevlar insole.

          S2
               - 200 joule toe cap and is classed as anti-static footwear the sole is also resistant to fuel
        oil and has energy absorption in the heel area it also has a water resistant upper.

          S3
               - has the same features as the S2 rating with the addition of the mid-sole penetration protection
        this can be a stainless steel insert in the sole, aluminum insert in the sole or by Kevlar insole.


           S4  - 200 joule toe cap and is classed as anti static footwear the sole is also resistant to fuel
        oil and has energy absorption in the heel area it is waterproof none as leak proof.

          S5
               - has the same features as the S4 rating with the addition of the mid-sole penetration protection
        this can be a stainless steel insert in the sole, aluminum insert in the sole or by Kevlar insole.
