EN 12568 : 2010
This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for toe caps and inserts with
resistance against mechanical penetration, intended to function as components of professional
footwear (e. g. as described by EN ISO 20345 to DIN EN ISO 20347).
These requirements and test methods for toe caps and penetration resistant inserts are used in
professional footwear (for instance as described in DIN EN ISO 20345 to DIN EN ISO 20347). The
European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 161 “Foot and leg protectors” with the substantial
participation of German experts. On the national level the responsible Working Committee is NA
075-04-01 AA of NPS of the same name.
• Internal toe cap - toe cap intended to be incorporated underneath the upper of footwear intended
to provide protection against mechanical impact and compression
• External toe cap - toe cap intended to be incorporated on top of the footwear upper forepart
intended to provide protection against mechanical impact and compression FOOT PROTECTION
• Penetration resistant insert - footwear component placed (or intended to be placed) in the sole
complex in order to provide protection against mechanical penetration
