The European Standard 14387:2004+A1:2008 defines protection against gases and vapours according to the following table:
Type Color Protection
A Brown Organic gases and vapours with a boiling point higher than 65°C
B Grey Inorganic gases and vapours
E Yellow Acid gases
K Green Ammonia and derivatives
AX Brown Organic gases and vapours with a boiling point lower than 65°C
P White Particles, dust and mist
Refer on the below tables to indicate which type of filter to use depending on the contaminant and its concentration, making sure the
oxygen level is greater than 17%.

*TLV: time-weighted average concentration of a substance to which the operator can be exposed without adverse health effects.
Nominal Protection Factor (NPF) - is a number derived from the maximum percentage of total loss (towards the inside of the breathing
apparatus) allowed by European standards.
Assigned Protection Factor (APF) - is the level of respiratory protection that one can realistically expect in the workplace by 95% of the
PPE users.
